Haslam’s Master of Accountancy has held a national reputation for decades, preparing students for professional careers in public accounting including the ability to navigate a wide range of business environments.


The program prepares students for top-tier careers in assurance, taxes, financial transactions and advisory services in 10 months of study.

Haslam’s MAcc has a 100 percent placement rate and the top CPA pass rate among Tennessee public institutions. Students who attend the program network with leaders in the field through the Neel Corporate Governance Speaker Series, and many go on to work at one of the Big Four accounting firms. Enrolling in Haslam’s MAcc is a 10-month commitment starting each fall that launches a stellar accounting career.

The Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program has recieved STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) designation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Neel Corporate Governance Speaker Series

The Neel Corporate Governance Center Speaker Series brings national experts to campus for lectures and networking. Past speakers include leaders of public accounting firms, audit committee members, Chief Financial Officers, PCAOB board members, SEC commissioners and institutional investors.

The Warren Slagle Accounting Day is a tradition spanning more than 40 years. The event brings together hundreds of alumni, students and friends of the Haslam accounting and information management programs to network.

MAcc students are invited to attend the Neel Corporate Governance Speaker Series each semester. The Speaker Series introduces experts in topics that students will face in an evolving profession. Admissions


Applications for the Masters of Accountancy program are submitted through Haslam directly. Haslam has application requirements specific to the MAcc.

Key Dates
January 15: Priority Deadline to be considered for graduate assistantships, fellowships and scholarships
February 1: Deadline for International Students
March 1: Deadline for Domestic Students

Requirements

The admission decision is based on all factors that make up the total application, with consideration given to factors such as:

  1. Academic record
  2. Scores on the GMAT (unless waived), and TOEFL/IELTS for non-native English speakers 
  3. Internships and/or work experience 
  4. Letters of Recommendation

Students with an accounting degree from an accredited baccalaureate degree program normally meet prerequisite requirements.

With prior approval from the MAcc director, students with strong undergraduate records in other academic areas/majors may qualify for admission by completing specified prerequisite course work in accounting, information management and business. Any prerequisites must be completed prior to starting the MAcc program.

Depending on background and desired concentration, required prerequisite courses may be in the following areas (or their equivalent): financial accounting, auditing, taxation, information systems and analytics. Please reach out to the MAcc director for details.

Additional courses may be required depending on the student’s academic background.

Haslam undergraduate accounting majors are exempt from the GMAT requirement. This waiver also applies to students who take the prescribed accounting prerequisites above the principle level at Haslam. Please use school code 1843 to submit your official scores.

For applicants whose native language is not English, the MAcc requires submission of a TOEFL or IELTS score. Please visit the University of Tennessee’s Graduate School Admission Requirements website for more information.

Students are expected to have a laptop computer for use in the program. Additional details concerning the hardware and software configurations required are posted here.

The Department of Accounting and Information Management awards scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and professional promise. Additional assistantships and fellowships offered through the university have varying eligibility requirements. No additional paperwork is required for these assistantships, fellowships or departmental scholarships, simply check the appropriate boxes on your admissions application.

Students also should apply for scholarships provided by the Tennessee Society of CPAs.

Learn about federal student loans and other need-based financial aid for graduate students at the OneStop. Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by February 1.

Our admitted applicants are automatically considered for merit-based program-funded graduate assistantships and scholarships. Assistantships and scholarships are highly competitive, and not all applicants receive funding opportunities. The graduate assistantships include a tuition fee waiver and a stipend for the semester awarded. No additional application is necessary for financial consideration. Admitted applicants can also apply for graduate assistantships that are outside of the MAcc program; our graduate school has a website that lists openings for graduate assistantships posted by other departments and colleges.
