Undergraduate Program

Bachelor’s programs in economics are offered through both the Haslam College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. Our curriculum includes foundational theory, econometric tools for data analysis and many fields of applied economics. Explore how an economics major can be the foundation to many rewarding careers.

Doctoral Program

Our faculty are dedicated to mentoring outstanding students pursuing a Ph.D. in economics. Our program includes advanced coursework in micro and macro theory, econometrics and many fields of specialization. Faculty work closely with students on research. Students have the opportunity to teach undergraduate classes, and many students work with faculty on funded research projects, often through the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research and Baker Center for Public Policy.

Experimental Economics Laboratory

The UT Experimental Economics Laboratory conducts research on a wide variety of topics, typically using computer-based simulations of decision environments. All undergraduate students regardless of their course of study are invited to sign up to participate in these experiments. No specialized knowledge is required. Individual participants earn money based on the decisions they and others make.

Internationally Recognized Research Centers

Haslam economics professors conduct research at the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, as well as the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. These University of Tennessee centers provide research into current topics that helps to define the policy debate.

Using economic modeling to determine quarantine policies
